And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ (Matthew 25:40)

5 Ways to Raise Money for Nonprofits

Individual donations are an excellent way to support nonprofits, but if you’re dreaming of something bigger, try out these ideas.

1. Host Your Own Event

Hosting your own event is a great way to put your personal stamp on how you give to a nonprofit. Events like car washes, bake sales, walkathons, and garage sales are excellent ways to get your community or civic group involved with the proceeds supporting the nonprofit of your choosing.

2. Invite the Director to Your Group

Another popular way to raise money for a nonprofit is to collect donations in your civic groups (Lions Club, PTO, etc.) and then invite the director of the nonprofit to speak at your event. Not only will you get to learn more about the mission of the organization, but you’ll also be able to present your gift and snap photos for your group’s publications.

3. Start a Crowdfunding Campaign

Crowdfunding is a popular way to raise funds for a specific cause or project by encouraging people to donate online. Some popular crowdfunding sites to raise money for personal and charity needs include GoFundMe, GoGetFunding, and Fundly.

4. Facebook Fundraising

Facebook also has the option for individuals to raise money for nonprofits and local businesses. A common use of this is creating a birthday fundraiser, where you ask friends to donate to the cause of your choosing in honor of your birthday. However, Facebook’s fundraising feature is available year-round, and you can learn more about it here.

5. Join the Nonprofit’s Events

A final way to raise money for nonprofits you care about is to jump on board when they are running their own fundraising campaigns. At any given time, your favorite nonprofit may be raising money for a specific need or hosting a fun event they’d love you to participate in. Make sure to follow your favorite nonprofits on social media and subscribe to their email newsletter too (if they have one). When you hear about their next fundraiser, you can participate and spread the word so your friends and family do too.
